Straightforward Content Cleaning Method

After identifying savable items, the first step is to rinse anything covering the item’s surface (ex. mud) to free it up for cleaning. Next, use hot water and a heavy-duty cleaner to scrub off any impurities left on the item. It’s best to use paper towels that you can simply dispose of.

Straightforward Content Cleaning Method

To neutralize any lingering toxins or microbes, it’s critical to disinfect using a water-bleach mixture ranging from two tablespoons per gallon of water for things like dishes to one quarter cup per gallon for surfaces like walls and cabinets. It’s important to not use bleach on any metals. Boiling water can be used as a substitute.

Drying out items can help protect against any mold growth. It’s ideal to leave items outside in the sun to speed up the drying process. You should also have your windows open, using fans to facilitate drying.

Dealing with floodwater can be stressful. However, a standard content cleaning process can maximize the property you recover while keeping restoration manageable.

Fires from Electrical and Holiday Lights

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

Electrical and Lighting Equipment is a common fire that we are called to restore.

Electrical equipment offers an improved quality of life, but that does not come without risks. A damaged cord or faulty wiring can lead to a fire. Cords should be inspected before plugging anything in and occasionally checked afterwards.

Holiday Items are another reason for fires in Carlisle, IN.

Temporary decorations in your home, such as a Christmas tree or scarecrow, should be kept away from flames or electrical components. When celebrating, fireworks are best used away from your home and grassy fields. Holidays are a time to be especially mindful of every fire hazard.

Being mindful of fire risks will save your home from extensive damage. If fire strikes, fire cleaning can be requested from a trained fire restoration crew. Most of the common sources of a home fire, luckily, are preventable with mindfulness.

Peace of mind and Future Preservation for Commercial Restoration

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

Floods can strike at any time, anywhere. It may seem obvious that if your business is in an area that’s at high risk for flooding, or if the property has flooded before, you should obtain a commercial flood policy. However, those who reside in low-risk areas shouldn’t dismiss the opportunity to purchase commercial insurance. That is, a low-risk area is not the same thing as a no-risk area. Policies often come in a range of deductibles, so pick the plan that’s best for your business and its location.

You’ve put a lot of hard work into your business, and a commercial flood policy can help make sure your company continues to operate, even after dealing with flood damage. By bringing in damage cleanup professionals as soon as possible, you may be surprised by what you’re able to preserve and restore without needing to go through the hassle of replacing permanently damaged items and structures.

Candle Safety to Prevent Fires

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

If You MUST Use Real Candles in your home then here are a few ways to use them safely.

Despite the hazards, some people prefer the classic essence of real candles. If candle alternatives are not for you, remember these tips to use candles safely and avoid hours (or days) of smoke cleanup:

  • Put all candles out before going to sleep.
  • Keep flammable objects as far away from lit candles as possible.
  • NEVER let young children or pets near lit candles.

A candle fire can easily turn into a homeowner’s worst nightmare. But whether you prefer real candles or are willing to try candle alternatives, the options are endless—as long as safety is considered for you and your home.

The Three Categories of Water Damages

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

Category 1: "Clean Water"

This is water from a clean source, such as a broken clean water supply line or faucet. If left untreated, category 1 water can quickly degrade into category 2 or 3 water depending upon such factors as time, temperature, and contact with contaminants.

  • Water from a clean source like a broken water line
  • If left untreated, can degrade into category 2 or 3

Category 2: "Gray Water"

This water has a significant level of contamination that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources for category 2 water may include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine, but no feces; or dishwasher overflow.

  • May contain bacteria and viruses
  • Can quickly degrade into category 3 if left untreated

Category 3: "Black Water"

This water is grossly unsanitary and could cause severe illness or death if ingested, and any contact should be avoided. Sources for category 3 water could include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.

  • May contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals, and microbes
  • Water from flooding rivers or sewer backup
